Vejers Strand rhymes with turbot fishing
At Vejers Strand you can catch flounder, mackerel, flatfish and garfish, and if you're lucky, you might even catch a salmon before it heads for Skallingen and Varde Å. Special to the Vejers area is turbot fishing, which the locals are very keen on - maybe it's something for you too?
Turbot fishing is popular all along the west coast of Denmark, but Vejers Strand is one of the best-known turbot spots. Turbot can be caught all the way inland.
Local voices say that at Vejers Strand you can catch turbot weighing up to 5-6 kilos!
What's the best way to catch a turbot, you ask? Turbot fishing can be done in most weather and wind conditions. However, experienced fishermen say that the higher the tide, the more fish you'll catch. The best bait is natural bait, as the turbot's good eyesight will immediately spot an artificial bristle worm and prevent you from coming home with fresh fish for the dinner table. April to July is the peak season for turbot fishing.

The Danish Turbot Championship will be held at Vejers Strand on Saturday 9 May 2026. Whether you're a participant or just a spectator, there's plenty of fun and enjoyment to be had. Experience turbot fishing for the big gold medal, a fish auction and barbecue sausages as well as a lot of other turbot enthusiasts.
